I use an external hard disk to edit videos on Vegas 13, but after a lot of editing. Vegas isn't able to detect files from my external hard disk.

The Location of all my files is still the name. It is detecting files of my Desktop's hard disk but not of my external disk. If you connect with a different USB port, Vegas will think the drive has disappeared.

Try Ejecting your Hard Drive and then reconnecting it. Eject your Ext. Hard Drive. Then re-boot your computer and finally reconnect your Ext. You may have to try resetting Vegas. I was editing a video and saved and quit to take a break. Files can't just go missing. Missing files can be easily found using the Search function in Windows.

Use the Search Box near Windows Start button and search ". This will list all. If you remember the file name you used, search for that as well. This bloody editing suite has done it again!!

My video has disappeared! I'd done loads of editing and just went off to do something else and now it's gone. Bloody great Videos cannot just disappear - there is always a logical explanation, but I do understand how frustrating this can be. I recommend using the Windows Search function to find where the video files are located. Windows Search is near the Windows Start button in bottom left corner.

Type name of video file, if you can remember what you called it and then click on results. If you can't remember the name, you can do a more wider search and just search the file extension. Search ". I can guess as to what is actually happening. If you open another program at the same time Vegas is open, this will make media go offline. Normally just clicking the timeline will bring it back to life.

If you are using a laptop on battery mode, the Hard Drive will go into Sleep Mode to save power. I recommend you change a setting in the Vegas Preference Settings, to stop the media going offline. I have put in the name of the video in windows search and it brings up the file with vf at the end.

Hi Aaron Vegas Pro is forwards compatible, so you should be able to do this, however there are many variables. Vegas Pro 9 could be used as the 32bit version or 64bit version. Vegas Pro 13 Edit is only a 64bit program now. So if your older projects were made with the 32bit version, any Video Fx you used will all be coded using 32bit programming.

This probably won't work in the 64bit version. You should be able to get core part of projects to open, but you will then have to manually replace Video Fx to newer 64bit versions.
